Cultivating Eros in the Depths of Winter

Posted by Emma Leafe on

EROS

As we navigate the last throws of Winter, in deep hibernation of what Nature presents as time of stillness and introspection (which is not necessarily what the human mind accepts) an awakening is beginning to be felt. Deep in the dark soil, Eros is stirring subtly.
Many of us have become accustomed to chasing dopamine highs and evidently crashing into our fears and lows. Especially now, when the pressure of relating can peak.

Can you be happy with what is?

Whether in a partnership or not, this time can present challenges. Expectations can arise. Instead of the more wanted feeling of sinking into the magic of Eros - like a cat timelessly basking in the sun, there may be a feeling that something is missing ...
In our human bid to run faster, be better, create more and compete; we mistakenly create the under-layered feeling of 'not enough'
Can we instead tune into the more subtle elements of flow? acceptance, appreciation

The Art of Balance

Many of us are working so hard to be that thing we desire in the future, we can't see where we actually already are. Eros is a stirring that comes from the subtle darkness, it is intangible, like a whisper from the wind that blows past our cheeks. It requires pause, atunement and slow, steady cultivation

Cultivating presence

Slowing down is the first step to inviting eros into our lives, in creating a safe and welcoming space. Cultivate a deeper sense of connection with the world around you. Gentle and natural. With cleanliness, ease and soft edges. Natural scent to transport the imagination into the sensory realms that sets the mood

Tools : Prepare your space to invite in more feeling

There is no one way to slowing down and tuning into the flow. A meditation practice morning and evening is really beneficial at this time, when the mind may have become cluttered after months of hibernation or inward mental time. You can cultivate more sensorial energies, to get into the moment, by some of the physical methods below:
Soft Lighting
Choosing soft indirect lighting in your home. Lighting a candle is a beautiful way to invite in the light of presence, especially when eating.
Quality Music for the Soul
Putting on calming yet energising music from real instruments. There are some beautiful playlists on Spotify by high quality artists that make music for the soul, not just for fame and profit
creating beauty, cultivating eros, with natural incense scent and textiles
Beauty in Natural Fibres
Bringing in textural fabrics, made with natural wools, cottons, silks. Adorning yourself in the natural energy of these pure fibres. Beautiful fabrics activate subtle feeling in the tips of our fingers too.
As well, creating a table display for eating with a simple natural fibre table runner and perhaps some curvaceous objects such as shells, fresh flowers or fruit to evoke pleasure in the natural form - how it ebbs and flows.
Natural Aromatics with Activating Properties
Smouldering natural scents that have soothing properties, such as pure Sandalwood, Aloeswood, or blends with a feminine touch in a beautiful chalice. Watching the artful smoke dance and curl. Keeping it subtle and clean after each use. It doesn't have to be witchy.
Spray natural dreaming mists around you and on bed linens before bedtime - and even during the day to keep in the flow of this energy.
Natural Foods for Health & Longevity
Choose home cooked foods, prepared and presented with love. Reject convenience foods, they are not good for the temple that is our body. Our one and only body vehicle was gifted to us, to house our spirit for this sacred journey of life.
Grow your own foods where you can, even if it's just rosemary to add to your dishes. Eat the energy you nurture and pour your love into. Your intension for the plants wellbeing and growth will then flow through you (energy exchange). Home grown foods are powerful for the soul

subtle aromatics, natural aphrodisiac scents

I hope you enjoy cultivating your sacred space to invite Eros in -  as well as a inspiring a deeper enjoyment of your precious life

Each moment is a moment to practice what we have learnt on this journey. Each person is meant to stand before you as your test, companion or reflection
